Veterans and First Responders.
Our name comes from the doughboys of the First World War. Being veteran and first responder friendly is not a slogan here, it is where the shop got its name.
Donuts have been part of looking after soldiers for over a century.
American soldiers in the First World War were nicknamed doughboys. In 1917, Salvation Army volunteers followed them to France and fried donuts in the field, serving them fresh to men who had been living on field rations. The volunteers became known as the Doughnut Lassies, and National Donut Day still honors what they did.
Doughboys Donuts carries that name on purpose. We are a veteran and first responder friendly shop, we are proud to say so, and we are glad when the people who serve and have served walk through our door.
Veterans and first responders get 15% off, every day.
It is a standing offer, not a maybe. Show us your veteran or first responder ID and 15% comes off anything you buy, any day we are open. There is no end date and there are no conditions.
Heartland Women Veterans come and stand with you.
American Legion Post 1107, also known as Heartland Women Veterans, is the only female-only American Legion post in the Kansas City area. They come to the shop on the 22nd of every month, unless we are closed that day, and stand in support of the veterans who come in.
The 22nd is deliberate. Roughly 22 veterans die by suicide every day, and the day is set aside so that veterans are seen and appreciated, and so that people talk to the veterans in their life.
Free cups of coffee for veterans are reserved for the 22nd of the month. Come in and your cup is on us.
A free cup of Joe's, for the GI Joes, is what we say.
Raytown doughboys, and the people who keep their stories.
We have partnered with the National World War I Museum in Kansas City, the only one in the United States, and with our local Salvation Army, to make their Donut Days good.
There are photographs on our shop walls of real doughboys from Raytown. One of them is Lieutenant John Richards, the first pilot from Kansas City shot down during the First World War.
After his death, a portion of land in Raytown was purchased and developed as the Richards Flying Field. Barnstormers trained there, along with notables such as Charles Lindbergh, and the field stayed busy until the 1950s when the downtown Kansas City airport was developed. The field was then sold and became the Gregory Heights Subdivision. Lieutenant Richards is one of the two men that the Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base, in nearby Grandview, is named after.

Our first news crew, June 5, 2026.
The National World War I Museum and Memorial asked us to partner with them for National Donut Day in 2025 and again in 2026, which was an honor. In 2026 we reached out to the Salvation Army of Kansas and Western Missouri to collaborate with us and the museum. It went well, and we look forward to working with both of them again.
The Salvation Army sent a news release to a local news station, and the station sent a crew to the shop. That made June 5, 2026 the first National Donut Day in our two years here with cameras in the dining room. The interviews they put together are below.
Thank you to Kathy Quinn of FOX4 Morning News for coming to Doughboys Donuts for National Donut Day, June 5, 2026!
